Collections

The Allaire Village Research Library and Archive holds a number of collections made up of art, photographs, newspapers, printed materials, historical books, maps, and postcards, ranging from the years 1700 to modern day. The library also has a variety of reference material and resources ready for research. 

 

Archival Collections

 

Collection 1 - Allaire Village (1858-1957)

Overview: Material from the years between the death of Allaire and the administration by Allaire Village, INC. This collection includes: 

Series I. Building Documents (1845-1957), some records are undated

Series II. General Information 

Newspaper clippings, and correspondences (1950)

Series III. Printed Material 

Essays and journals

Series IV. Village Photographs (1890’s-1957), some records are undated

 

Collection 2 - Howell Iron Works Records

Overview: Material from the years of operation of the Howell Iron Works, owned by James P. Allaire until his death. The collection includes:

Series I. Business Records 

Series II. Deeds 

To and from JPA, To and from people associated with Howell Iron Works, and Deed maps. (c. 1830’s to 1880’s)

Series III. Legal Papers 

Bonds, mortgages, land surveys, maps, returns, extracts, and court records.

Series IV. Correspondence 

Series V. Employee Information 

List of employees at Howell Iron Works and Bergen Iron Works, Tax Ratables, Federal Census Records, and material owned by individuals

Series VI. Inventories 

Allaire family and Howell Iron Works employee inventories.

Overview: Material from or dealing with Allaire family genealogy, including cemeteries and ancestral records.The collection includes:

Overview: Material from the years the park was owned by Arthur Brisbane, including Brisbane family records and personal records. This collection includes:

Library Collections 

Overview: A variety of historical books ranging from the 1700’s to 1930’s. Dealing with topics like, history, mathematics, fictional literature, poetry, readers and spellers, language, music, children’s literature, Bibles and other theological texts, encyclopedias and dictionaries, geography, law, and philosophy.

Reference Collections

Overview: The Reference collections includes a range of research material, dealing with general history of the 19th century, history of Allaire Village, people of Allaire, and local history.
